I fell in love with Airstream trailers at the ripe old age of seven. It happened on a cross-country trip with my family on our journey from New York to California when I spotted a shiny silver Airstream from the back of our VW bus. I was instantly smitten. Fast forward to a road trip through Idaho with my man, Greg. We saw an Airstream parked on the side of the road with a "For Sale" on it, and in the blink of an eye, the trailer joined us on our journey back to California. I was smiling big and wide the entire way, planning, imagining and sketching how I would transform the interior. That plan came to life when I incorporated rounded forms to the interior to match the feel of the exterior. The color palette is actually based on a piece of birch bark that has a surprising array of subtle colors. Within the interior I made my sentimental objects into functional objects to keep things streamlined. This can be seen in my sand curtain and my postcard countertop on my design page. |
My Airstream has been one of my most powerful inspirations in designing my jewelry. I head into my silver nest and it both soothes me and stimulates my creativity. It's a place that represents travel and shelter, comfort and efficiency. Silver Trailer is a design studio and a showcase for my jewelry and artwork. Every fall and spring I show my work in Hunters Point Shipyard in San Francisco as well as doing other jewelry trunk shows and events on the west coast. Artwork: My Wearable Essentials are my travel-related jewelry—jewelry was created with self-sufficiency in mind. My Room Settings are narrative living spaces of places I've lived through out my life. Thanks for visiting my silver trailer. Stay awhile...
